About the Role


As the Lead Firmware Engineer at Augmental, you will be responsible for establishing best practices in firmware development, leading the effort to reduce power consumption at the embedded code level, and continuing to develop the MouthPad^ and future products. Most of your time will be spent writing code which will be shipped to each MouthPad^. Additionally, you must be willing to sometimes work with our users directly to debug issues they are experiencing. Our users are what make Augmental special, and understanding the wide range of their needs is important for us to make the right decisions in our day-to-day work.


It is strongly preferred that you are in San Francisco and willing to work out of our office, but remote work is possible if the fit is right (part of our team works remotely full-time already).

Responsibilities


  • Establish best practices in firmware development.
  • Improve power profile of current products.
  • Develop drivers for R&D with new sensors.
  • Improve and implement signal processing algorithms.

Key Qualifications


  • Strong sense of responsibility to the customer and willingness to interface with them directly.
  • Commitment to developing automated testing and quality assurance practices.
  • Proficiency in designing low-power, efficient systems for size-constrained applications.
  • Strong skills with MCU development, C/C++, and familiarity with common communication protocols (I2C, I2S, SPI, UART, etc.)
  • Solid FW fundamentals and adept at HW/SW debugging with lab equipment.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with sensors, memory management, power management, asynchronous systems, FSMs, error-handling, and/or wireless systems (such as BLE, WIFI, Zigbee, NFMI, etc).
  • Prior experience with wearable devices.
  • Experience developing Human Interface Devices (HID).
  • Prior experience with wireless charging and signal/power integrity.
  • Prior experience with embedded machine learning.
  • Prior experience with medical devices.
  • Prior experience with BLE Audio.

Compensation


California base salary range: $100,000 — $140,000 USD.
Your compensation package will include two major components: salary and equity. Salary for this role will be determined according to the level at which you enter the organization.
